Computational Design

Computational design is a design methodology that relies on the application of mathematics and programming to obtain and explore desired shapes. This allows us to have absolute control over the geometry as well as being able to obtain information (structural analysis, thermal effiecieny analysis, sun radiance analysis, CFD analysis) about the design in real time in the same workflow.
One of the most powerful advantages of this methodology is that everything is governed by the parameters that we have defined so that a change in the input parameters will cause an immediate update in all phases of the workflow, which allows us to quickly determine, for example, its manufacturability.
Because this methodology has its foundations in programming, it allows us, in an easy way, to apply optimisation algorithms (evolutionary solvers) within the workflow.
Optimisation algorithms can be used to achieve a variety of objectives. The most common ones could be; adjusting the shape of a design so that it can be manufactured as efficiently as possible, structural optimisation to use as little material as possible, shape optimisation based on market trends…
